Summary: |
Two polyploid complexes with facultative apomicts will be studied: while the degree of residual sexuality is known at least at some members of Hieracium subgen. Pilosella, its function at Rubus is only estimated from population composition. The cp-DNA will be studied at Hieracium hybrids in two regions to test the possible extrapolation of previous findings, suggesting important role of apomictic mothers in the formation of natural hybrids. The cytotype structure of Rubus populations will include also the local types not studied yet. The residual sexuality will be detected by analysis of progeny from experimental crosses as well as of that originated in the field; the results will be confronted with the situation in respective populations. To detect possible pathways of progeny origin, we shall use mostly experimental crosses between different cytotypes in Hieracium, and molecular markers in Rubus. In Hieracium, we shall test the role of diploid hybrids as a switch for polyploidisation, due to increased formation of unreduced gametes compared to diploid parents. |
