Summary: |
The relative importance of species pool limitation and effect of guild structure on species composition will be tested in two types of grassland communities. Species pool limitation will be tested by experiments, where seeds of species absent from a locality will be sown into communities with experimentally manipulated guild structure. The set of species potentially able to grow at the locality but actually absent from it will be determined from the available phytosociological database. The guild structure will be determined by using statistical analysis of spatial structure and long term co-variation of species and by removal experiments (if a species is removed, other species from the same guild will be able to increase disproportionally, relative to species from other guilds) to replace the removed biomass, and the two results will be compared. The projects takes advantage of long term permanent experimental plots, with long-time data records. |
