Summary: |
The main goal of this proposed project is to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships and to elucidate the evolutionary processes underlying ecogeographic patterns of recent population differentiation within polyploid complex of Myosotis alpestris. Combining molecular phylogenies (derived from ITS region of nrDNA and from cpDNA) with phylogenetic information from non-molecular data (morphology, karyology) will be provided insight to the biogeographic and evolutionary history of the complex. Samples from locations throughout the European high mountains will be used for analyses. This approach will provide necessary information both for documenting the evolutionary diversity within group as well as for the pragmetic efforts of its taxonomy and conservation biology. Generally, the project will contribute to our knowledge of the impact of Quaternary climatic changes on the creating plant diversity in the European mountain regions. |
