Summary: | Many calcareous grasslands plant species do not expand to neighbouring abandoned fields. The main aim of the project is to found out i) whether these plants do not settle at abandoned fields due to changes in composition of communities of AMF resulted from agriculture in the past, and ii) whether pre-inoculation of plants with native AMF can improve their performance on abandoned fields. The first step of the project will be characterisation of AMF communities on abandoned fields and calcareous grasslands and evaluation of mycorrhizal infectivity of the soils. The second step will be testing the effect of changes in AMF community on structure of plant communities. In the third part of the project, the ability of plants from the grassland to survive on abandoned field will be supported by pre-inoculation of seedlings planted to the field with AMF native to the grassland or by adding inoculum from the grassland to field plots seeded with seeds of grassland species.
