Summary: |
A project is a phylogenetic study of Codinaea, Dictyochaeta, Menispora and allied phialidic dematiaceous hyphomycetous genera. They form a species-richest but imperfectly known group of anamorph genera recognized in ascomycete genus Chaetosphaeria as the Menispora-group (ca. 166 taxa). These genera contain taxa that are a key in understanding the phylogeny and preliminary infrageneric classification of Chaetosphaeria suggested on the basis of former phylogenetic studies using molecular approach. The proposed project is based on morphological, cultural and molecular studies (PCR, sequencing of the LSU rDNA gene, secondary structure models) of anamorph genera and phylogenetic analysis methods. The background lies in obtaining molecular and morphological data of type and other species from cultural isolates from freshly collected material. The project is designed to resolve systematic and phylogenetic questions and to address a number of challenges currently facing ascomycete systematics. |
