Summary: |
Since many years, the frequency of inoculations with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi as a bio-fertilization tool for
agriculture and horticulture is increasing, however, it was not possible to prove the efficiency of this treatment in terms of
inoculum establishment so far. This project will be the first one to distinguish an inoculated AM fungal isolate from other
isolates of the same species, which might be present in the field. A recently developed molecular marker – mitochondrial
LSU rDNA will be used for this purpose. This inoculated isolate will be traced in the roots of plants and its survival and
development in the field and thus the efficiency of the whole inoculation process will be evaluated. Further on, the AM
fungal community structure changes, which occur after the introduction of a inoculated AM fungal strain, will be
investigated on the between- as well as within-species level. These results will be completely new to science as well as to
AM fungal inoculum producers. |
