| Summary: | The aim of the project is to found the role of mycorrhizal symbiosis in local adaptation of plant populations and to determine whether the response of plant populations to inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi is related to soil characteristics and the identity of fungal isolate. The response of 6 populations of model plant species Aster amellus to inoculation with different isolates of a model fungal species obtained from model localities will be compared in cultivation in experiments in soils native to individual plant populations and to individual fungal isolates. Importance of local adaptations will be studied also in the field and compared to the results of cultivation experiments. The study will provide original findings on local adaptations of plant and fungal populations in natural communities. |
