Summary: | We plan to determine the relative importance of stochastic and deterministic factors for community composition in dry grasslands and especially stress the importance of stochasticity for establishment of dominants and the subsequent effect of the dominants on community composition. We will perform a set of experiments both in the field and in the garden, which will allow us to make complex conclusions about the role of stochasticity in community assembly. Within our project, deterministic factors are represented by abiotic conditions (which determine species competitive ability), the timing of seed arrival and seed density stand for stochastic factors. |
