Flora of the Czech Republic

Flora of the Czech Republic represents a series which, in great detail, covers local wild vascular plant species (native species, naturalized aliens and casuals) and more frequently outdoor cultivated taxa. The Flora includes comprehensive encyclopaedic taxonomic and chorological information and identification keys to all the taxa. Each volume contains keys to genera (following the descriptions of families; key to families will be found at the beginning of the special part in vol. 1.), species (following the descriptions of genera) and subspecies (following the descriptions of species). The correct species names are followed by synonyms, exsiccates, description, chromosome number, variability, ecology and phytocenological characteristics, distribution in the Czech Republic, total geographic distribution and economic significance.

The compendium is published by ACADEMIA, publishing house of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Flora of the Czech Republic 9 (2024)

Chief editor: Jitka Štěpánková
Series editors: Jitka Štěpánková, Jindřich Chrtek jr., and Zdeněk Kaplan

The ninth book includes seven monocotyledon families out of which 91 genera and 397 species are covered in detail, and others in the form of notes. The texts on Cyperaceae and Poaceaea families are the most comprehensive. The way many critically endangered genera are covered in the ninth book is significant from the taxonomical point of view, of these the most notable is the part on the Carex genus. It introduces several pieces of new taxonomical and nomenclatural information and thus is a valuable monographical study not only for the Czech Republic. Also noteworthy, is the text covering the Poaceae family, economically one of the most important global plant families. Cereals, namely representatives of the Avena, Hordeum, Panicum, Secale, Triticum, or Zea genera, are some of the major food sources for humans.
