Nitrogen from fossil fuels changes herbaceous vegetation in forests
Scientists from the Institute of Botany, Czech Academy of Sciences have participated in two important studies published in the journals Science and Science Advances. These studies focus on the impact of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on the diversity of the herbaceous understory of forests in Europe and North America. The results showed a westward shift of plant species as well as a decline in the diversity of leguminous plants.
