Comparison of selected features of cyanobacteria and microalgae originated from polar and temperate regions (polyphasic approach)
(2007 – 2011)
Since 2006 in collaboration with Komensky University in Bratislava an ecophysiological research of cyanobacteria and micro-algae is performed. Several uni-algal strains of Klebsormidium, Klebsormidiophyceae, Streptophyta were isolated from various habitats in the Arctic, Antarctic and temperate region (central Europe). Klebsormidium is one of the most ecologically important microalgae occurring in polar regions. Evaluation of taxonomic features inside this group is complicated because of high morphological variability. The complete research covering ecophysiological features, 16S sRNA and morphological diversity with the aim to find out differences between strains originating from polar and temperate strains is performed (Elster at al. 2008).
